None of Us Are “Normal”

Conversations About Mental Health, Music, and Making the Life You Want

What does ‘normal’ mean, anyway? Who decides what is or isn’t ‘normal’ for each of us? Why do we all so desperately just want to be… normal?!

I’ve decided that none of us are normal and that normal is something made up that puts limitations around our feelings and experiences. We all struggle. We all experience sadness sometimes, whether momentary or all-encompassing. We all deserve joy in our lives.

No, none of us are ‘air quotes normal’, but we’re all very very real. Join me in real conversations with real people who I know and love to discuss mental health, music, and what it means to make the most out of life. This is “None of Us Are ‘Normal’.’”

NONE OF US ARE "NORMAL"

“ I wanted to be Taylor Swift. Who doesn’t want to be Taylor Swift?! … But I didn’t meet that goal in the time that I really wanted to have it.”

Becoming Taylor Swift, Setting Goals, and Ruining My 30th Birthday

S1E1 | None of Us Are ‘Normal’ Podcast

On the debut episode of “None of Us Are ‘Normal,’” I wanted to talk about goals. I’ve always been quite the goal setter, but over the course of time, I’ve realized that, while goals are great to have because they hold you accountable to your dreams and desires, they can also be extremely limiting. They can make you believe you’re a failure. They can become something you tie your worth to. (I speak from experience.) Join me as I chat about goals, stadium tours, and how I ruined my 30th birthday for myself.

Therapy Doesn’t Have To Be Scary

I am so excited to be joined by clinical psychologist (and my very own sister!), Leah Todd, for this two part episode. In Part 1, we are diving into a few of the myths surrounding therapy. We break down why– while certainly a big and brave step– choosing to go to therapy doesn’t have to be scary, as well as what the very vulnerable, very human connection between therapist and client is really all about. You’ll hear Leah talk about why therapy can be helpful for everyone, the difference between pain and suffering, and how necessary it is to put in the work in order to truly heal.

Grief Around the Holidays, Creating Quiet Moments, and Leading an Emotionally-Rich Life

S1E3 | None of Us Are ‘Normal’ Podcast

And we’re back for Part 2 with clinical psychologist (and my older sister), Leah Todd. In Part 1 of my conversation with Leah, we spent some time on the basics of therapy and how to get the help you need. In this week’s episode, we’re digging a little deeper and discussing how to navigate grief during the holidays. Leah provides so many invaluable tips on how to honor a loved one’s memory, give ourselves space to grieve what’s lost, and even how to grieve for ourselves. We even talk about family dynamics at holiday events and how to set boundaries to create a healthier holiday environment.

S1E4 | None of Us Are ‘Normal’ Podcast

with Natascha Myers

On this week’s episode of None of Us Are Normal, I am joined by singer/songwriter and brand designer, Natascha Myers. Natascha also happens to be my very own creative director and a co-writer on my song Backburner, and I’m excited to share our conversation about what happens when plans change. We talk about overcoming societal and industry narratives, doing what’s right for you (and only you!), and adapting when goals inevitably change. Natascha shares her story about moving away from Nashville and starting a second career… all for the sake of her mental and creative health.

Why I Started This Podcast in the First Place

with Danielle Todd

I wanted to take a brief season intermission and talk about why I started this podcast. In addition to wanting to offer my Buy Me A Coffee fans something more valuable than most fan subscriptions, mental health is a cause that is close to my heart. Take a listen to hear where and why my awareness of mental health began, how it informed my career as a musician, and how it brought me here– hosting a podcast called ‘None of Us Are Normal.’

S1E6 | None of Us Are ‘Normal’ Podcast

with Robbie Berardi

Meet my cousin, Robbie. Historian and philosopher. Member of a ThinkTank. Museum educator. Massage therapist. Blacksmith. Free diver. Mountaineer. Cheerleader. Juggler. World Traveller. You name it, Robbie’s done it. Robbie joins us to talk about doing what you want without a plan, how physical activity has changed how he cares for his mental health, and art as the ultimate catharsis. I’ve always looked up to Robbie for how he does whatever he feels compelled to do without a second guess– whether that be blacksmith training in Europe or becoming a massage therapist in Thailand– and I’m excited for you to learn a little bit about him today.

Being Your Own Biggest Fan, More Than ‘Just A Number’, and Perfectionism is Boring

S1E7 | None of Us Are ‘Normal’ Podcast

with Jessie T

I’m thrilled to have my good friend, Jessie T, on the show. In addition to being a talented singer/songwriter herself, Jessie is also a mental health advocate, expert in the art of the dad joke, and cat mom. We discuss using our resources to take care of our mental health the same way we go to the gym to take care of our physical health, the future of female in the music industry, and being reborn at 30. Jessie shares her thoughts on perfectionism, settling on the statement that “originality is cool,” and gives us so many valuable insights into taking care of your mental health.
